Functional Nanostructures Laboratory

Functional Nanostructures Laboratory, a part of the Research Institute for Semiconductors and Informatics at Kumamoto University, aims to uncover the microscopic origins of electronic device functions, such as semiconductors and dielectrics, at the nano/atomic scale and electronic level. Our objective is to contribute to the development of new materials. Our expertise primarily lies in atomic-scale scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and “in-situ” electron microscopy, allowing the study of electronic devices under operative conditions.

For inquiries regarding our research, admission to graduate school (Semiconductor device system program), or admission to semiconductor device program, Faculty of Engineering, please contact Professor Yukio Sato via email at sato-yukio @ kumamoto-u.ac.jp.
